The organic process starts with how a plant is grown. We still harvest monk fruit for Lakanto in the same pristine area according to traditional and environmental methods that have been used for generations.

Our monk fruit is grown in very select elevations and conditions in the mountains of Guilin, China far from city pollution. The elevation and climate provide the monk fruit with fresh, clean water while protecting it from flooding.

Each fruit is pollinated, grown and harvested by hand, without pesticides. Farmers use natural pest control, including bottle traps and netting. We support the local economy without interference, allowing family villages to exist as they have for centuries—some as long as 400 years.

SUSTAINABLE SEED-TO-SWEETENER PROCESS

Our farm-to-package process maintains the freshness of the fruit for the best flavor and sweetness. The extraction plant is close enough to the field to maintain the freshness of the fruits.

Lakanto’s parent company, SARAYA Co. Ltd, uses some of the leftover pulp and makes it into a natural scrub for hand soap. The rest is redistributed to local farms as compost. We are constantly working to further reduce our waste and have a positive impact on the environment.

Our farmers practice sustainable field cycling. After the monk fruit grows for three years they plant trees to grow alongside the monk fruit. After five years the poles and nets for growing monk fruit are removed and the trees go in to reforest the area.

Erythritol is made by fermenting the glucose found in vegetables like tapioca or non-GMO corn. Close to the end of the fermentation process, the yeast is completely removed. At Lakanto, we do extensive testing with our manufacturer to ensure that our erythritol is yeast-free.
