A Spotlight on Men's Health

· · · Comments

June is Men’s Health Month and we want to break some stereotypes around health trends. Men’s health magazines often feature abs and protein supplements and while those things may be great, your health involves so much more than how you look.

Trends that address top health issues for men.

DID YOU KNOW?
Almost 30% of those same men surveyed said they will "wait as long as possible" to seek medical attention when they are feeling sick or in pain.

Stay with us fellas, this is important. Pair the lack of preventative measures with the additional stress and responsibility that most men carry, and there could be hidden issues just percolating. But we’re not here to nag—we’re here to offer education and inspiration. So put yourself first, and read through some cool data points, plus some suggestions to make incremental improvements in your health and wellness.

Stand up for your health

80% of Americans don't get enough exercise, according to the CDC.

Part of our lack of exercise is due to how much we sit. Did you know sitting too much each day is as bad for you as smoking? But there are simple techniques you can try to get in extra movement even during your long work day. We outlined some for you here.

Get the right amount of protein for your body

There’s a stereotype that being manly means eating steaks, burgers, and dozens of eggs. But how much protein do you really need and how much of that could you be getting from plants? You don’t have to “go vegan” to start incorporating more vegan protein sources into your diet. They’re good for you and for the environment.

Breathe deeper for improved health

This stress-reducing technique is so efficient it’s used by the Navy Seals. It’s something you do every day, but may not be using to your advantage. Take a deep breath in and breathe out again. You may feel better in just a few moments.

If you want to take it to the next level, try Holotropic Breathwork for emotional healing and altered states.

Inflammation could be holding you back

Is inflammation keeping your body from being in peak condition? It could be as easy as a diet change. Some foods are more inflammatory for other people than others, for example, you may have dairy intolerance or be allergic to gluten.

On the flip side, there are plenty of foods that are anti-inflammatory. Learn more about if you need an anti-inflammatory diet?

Addressing food addiction

Diet is an important part of our health, but in addition to choosing the right foods, we need to carefully consider our relationship with food. The amount you eat and how you eat is an important part of building lasting changes and breaking unhealthy habits.

Thomas DeLauer is a big name in health and wellness, but he didn’t always have a healthy relationship with food. He opened up to us about his story of how he overcame his food addiction and got into peak condition.

How do you fast?

Fasting is definitely a trend right now. Have you tried Intermittent Fasting? Have all your friends tried it and you’re skeptical? There are lots of ways to fast and we have a guide to find one that works for you! Check out our guide: How to Fast: There is More Than One Way
