Popular drink found linked to 184,000 deaths last year
According to a study reported by The Washington Post, sugar is literally killing us. The consumption of sugary drinks has been linked to over 184,000 adult deaths around the world each year. Researchers at Tufts University found that one in every 100 deaths from obesity-related diseases is related to the consumption of sugary drinks. The research also concluded that sugary drinks are to be responsible for 133,000 deaths from diabetes, 45,000 from cardiovascular disease and 6,450 from cancer.
This study shows that sugar consumption is a serious threat to life across the globe and especially the United States. Two-thirds of women and three-quarters of men in the U.S. are overweight or obese and more than 25,000 adult deaths a year are linked to sugary beverage consumption.
