Nature’s Great Gift
Recorded history shows that vinegar debuted in 5000 BC when unattended grape juice led to the discovery of vinegar. Since then, Hippocrates (420 BC) used vinegar to heal wounds. Legend says, Hannibal of Carthage (200 BC) used vinegar to dissolve boulders in his army’s path (wonder how much vinegar that took…). And even Cleopatra (50 BC) dissolved pearls in vinegar to create a love potion for Anthony. (Sounds unlikely, but hey! she got the guy!) Vinegar is known as one of “nature’s great gifts to mankind”. Apple cider vinegar- vinegar made from (you guessed it) apples- is specifically shown to have a plethora of health benefits for the whole body.
Apple Cider Vinegar Uses:
1. Stomach Issues
-Mix 1-2 tablespoons of vinegar to water or another clear liquid and sip for an upset stomach. If you have a bacterial infection, apple cider vinegar can help contain the problem due to its antibiotic properties. Apple cider vinegar also contains pectin which will help soothe your intestinal aches.
2. The Cure for Hiccups?
- Finally. Something that stops those annoying heart stopping hiccups! One teaspoon of apple cider vinegar overstimulates the nerves that are responsible for the spasms. I haven’t tried this one yet… comment below if it has worked for you!
3. Natural Skin Toner
-The vinegar can be used to treat acne, oily skin, and blemishes. Due to its antibacterial properties, it controls oily skin, cleans out deep pores, kills the bacteria in and around your pimples, and controls your skins pH levels. With a 6.7 oz La Mer brand toner costing around $90, apple cider vinegar is a very economical option; especially if the problem area covers large portions of the face and back! Dilute the cider vinegar to 1:8 with water and apply once or twice a day with a cotton ball.
4. Clears a Stuffy Nose
-The potassium in apple cider vinegar thins mucus and the acetic acid hinders germ growth. 1 teaspoon mixed with a glass of water helps sinus drainage.
5. Controls Blood Sugar
-Drinking a mixture of water and apple cider vinegar before eating a high carb meal controls blood sugars. Apple cider vinegar is anti-glycemic and will help those struggling with blood sugar. 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar can lower glucose levels up to 6%.
6. Weight Loss
-Apple Cider Vinegar contains acetic acid which, when ingested, suppresses appetite, increases metabolism and reduces water retention! It is also thought to interfere with the digestion of starch, thus fewer calories enter the bloodstream.
7. Natural cleaner
-Try using apple cider vinegar by itself or diluted as an effective and safe cleaner. It’s acidic so it is effective in collecting dirt and grime. It also isn’t as harsh as other cleaners and won’t damage your furniture or floors.
Sometimes ancient and simple solutions are the best. Apple cider vinegar is a natural, healthy, and effective way to take care of your body (and according to Cleopatra, your love life as well). Try out some of these suggestions and let me know what you think in the comments below!
